Benefits

The many benefits of using SilompanTM range from its inherent beauty to environmental impact. The unique properties of bamboo, along with Silompan’s strict quality control throughout the entire manufacturing and delivery process, combine to create a value package unrivaled in the building materials industry.
Ecological Benefits
Increasing concern for the environment among designers, builders, and do-it-yourselfers of all types is a major factor in bamboo’s rapidly growing popularity.
Bamboo is renewable.
Hard and softwood forests take from 8-60 years to mature for harvesting, creating a tremendous demand on land and other resources. In contrast, bamboo is technically not a wood at all, but a species of grass which is one of the fastest growing plants on Earth. It regenerates quickly, replacing nearly a third of its biomass (living matter per unit volume of habitat) annually. Bamboo fibers mature and culms can be harvested within 3 to 5 years.
Bamboo is sustainable.
Bamboo grows in groves by establishing a foundation network of underground stems and roots that regenerate themselves. It can thus sustain itself on its own, but also benefits from routine cutting. Because it regenerates so rapidly, utilizing bamboo in place of other wood products can help to preserve and protect our fragile ecological balance for current and future generations.
Properties
There are roughly 1,000 different bamboo species worldwide, each with unique colors, features, strengths and density. Silompan is made 100% from a South-east Asian variety of bamboo possessing truly miraculous properties. Its strength to weight ratio is better than graphite. Its tensile strength is greater than steel. It is more resistant to compression than concrete. Its density is similar to oak, but it is significantly more stable.
| Density (psi) | Relative Stability | |
| SilompanTM (6mm ply) | 1120-1380 | 0.00172 |
| Red Oak | 1290 | 0.00365 |
| Teak | 1000 | 0.00184 |
Silompan is formed of bamboo strips cut and planed from whole timber-sized culms, which are then laminated together to produce an extraordinarily hard and durable product suitable for nearly any building application.
